Supporting Our Local Club
This weekend we supported our local tennis club for something a bit bigger than a Saturday game.
The club hosted a twelve-hour tennis day in aid of Nightingale House Hospice in Wrexham, and so far it has raised over £1,000.
We provided the food. Sourdough loaves, some seeded and some plain. Brioche burger buns made with 15% butter — enough to give a proper soft, rich bun that still holds together under a burger rather than collapsing halfway through. And baguettes built on a 24-hour biga, which is a long preferment by anyone’s standards and gives the finished loaf a depth of flavour and a strength in the dough that a shorter process simply will not produce.

Twelve hours of tennis takes some feeding, and there is something quite satisfying about a bake being eaten within the hour by people who have earned it.
We also sponsored a bench for the club, which has been well received and will hopefully be sat on by a great many tired players for years to come.
Nightingale House provides hospice care to people across Wrexham and the surrounding area, free of charge, and relies overwhelmingly on local fundraising to do it. Events like this are how that actually happens — one club, one weekend, a lot of tennis.
The fundraiser is still open. If you would like to support it, you can donate here: [(insert direct fundraiser link)]
Thank you to everyone at the club who organised it, played in it, and turned up to eat.
