Celebrating the Best of British Baking
I’m incredibly proud to have returned as a judge for Britain’s Best Loaf 2026, one of the UK’s most respected bakery competitions.
Having grown up in my family’s bakery in Germany before becoming a German Master Baker, baking has always been more than a profession—it’s been a lifelong passion. Since moving to the UK in 2015, I’ve been fortunate to work alongside some incredible businesses, contribute to projects such as the M&S Collection Sourdough range and remain actively involved in supporting the wider baking industry.
Being invited to judge Britain’s Best Loaf is a privilege that I never take for granted.
The competition celebrates everything that’s great about our industry, bringing together talented bakers from across the country to showcase their skills, creativity and dedication to producing exceptional bread.
Judging is officially underway, and it’s inspiring to see the standard of entries once again. From beautifully crafted white and wholemeal loaves to outstanding sourdoughs and imaginative speciality breads, the quality on display is a testament to the passion that exists throughout British baking.

Competitions like Britain’s Best Loaf are about much more than winning awards. They encourage innovation, recognise craftsmanship and inspire the next generation of bakers to continue raising standards across the industry.
It was fantastic to be part of this year’s judging panel, and I’d like to congratulate everyone who entered. The level of talent made the judging process both enjoyable and incredibly challenging.
“Every loaf tells a story. Seeing the passion, skill and dedication behind each entry is what makes judging Britain’s Best Loaf such a rewarding experience.”
